DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU volleyball team snapped its four-game losing streak on Tuesday night, taking down Central Florida 3-1 (19-30, 32-30, 30-27, 30-23) at Moody Coliseum. Freshman Natalie Peters had her second match winning block on the season to seal the victory for the Mustangs (6-9) and led SMU with 11 total blocks. Her four solo blocks were the second-highest total in SMU history. Peters also tallied nine kills and four digs.
Rachel Giubilato just missed a 20-20 game, recording 19 kills and 20 digs for her 11th double-double this season. Caitlin Rainbird also recorded a double-double, notching 13 kills and 17 digs. Kelly Larkan filled the stat sheet with 13 kills, eight digs and three blocks, while Ashley Zener chipped in with seven kills and three digs.
Stefanie Kons made her second career start for the Mustangs at setter and notched her first career double-double with 54 assists and 14 digs, both career highs. Libero Jennette Evanco led SMU in digs with 27, tying an SMU record for digs in a four-game match.
The SMU volleyball team returns to action this weekend Oct. 7-8, when they travel to Houston, Texas, for C-USA action against both Houston and Rice. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
