Mustangs Top Wyoming in Men's Swimming

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's swimming and diving team downed Wyoming on Friday night, 125-96, at Perkins Natatorium on the SMU campus. The Mustangs (2-0) won seven of the first eight events to grab the early and take the dual meet from the Cowboys.
SMU won both relays to bookend the evening, taking the 200 medley relay to begin the meet (1:32.88) and the 200 free relay (1:26.67) to close out the night, earning 22 points for the Mustangs.
Alex Hetland and J.D. White each collected two wins against the Cowboys. Hetland, a sophomore from Norway, was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team and touched the wall first in the 200 IM (1:52.27). White won the 100 free (47.37) and swam the leadoff leg in the winning 200 free relay team.
Michael Dmitriev was victorious in the 1000 free (9:31.21) for SMU, finishing nearly five seconds ahead of the second place finisher. In diving action, Phil Griffin took the one-meter competition, scoring 312.70 points. Results of the three-meter competition are not available at this time.
The SMU men's swimming and diving team returns to action Saturday afternoon when they travel to Denton, Texas, to face Centenary on the campus of North Texas at 12 p.m..
