DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's swimming and diving team improved their dual meet record to 3-0 on Saturday when they defeated Centenary 105-66 in Denton, Texas. The Mustangs won five of the first six events and both relays to run away with the meet.
The 200 medley relay team of Alex Weidemann, Travis Wolther, Emilio Garmendia and Justin Stephenson started the night with a win, touching first in 1:37.92, nearly five seconds ahead of Centenary. The Ponies also took the 200 free relay (1:29.05) to close out the event.
Freshman Chris Ginder picked up another win in 1000 free, finishing first in 9:56.64, while Justin Smith (1:46.81) touched first in the 200 free. Garmendia (21.49) and Smith (21.59) finished one-two in the 50 free and the Mustangs pulled even further from Centenary when White (1:58.80), Patrick Elerding (2:01.78) and Daniel Veale (2:03.78) swept the top three spots in the 200 IM.
Senior tri-captain Chase Ingraham (48.22) grabbed the top spot in the 100 free and Weidemann recorded his second win on the afternoon in the 200 back (1:59.29). The Mustangs then swam the last few events as exhibitions until taking the final relay.
The SMU men's swimming and diving team returns to action when the travel to College Station, Texas, to participate in the Texas A&M Invitational on Nov. 18-20.
