SMU men's swimming and diving team will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to battle the Utah Utes on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. CT at Ute Natatorium.
The Mustangs faced the Utes already this season, competing against them at the SMU Invite on Nov. 19-22. With then ranked No. 7/No. 8 Stanford, Drury, Air Force, Hawai'i and Notre Dame (Diving Only) competing as well, SMU finished second overall with 833.5 points. The Mustangs concluded the meet with nine new additions to the program's all-time top five performers list, four event wins and three new records.
Jack Berube secured two victories: 100 back (46.07) and 200 back (1:40.15, school record). Divers
Luke Sitz and
Grant Cates finished first on 1-meter and platform, respectively. Sitz's 404.5-scoring performance in the preliminary round marked a new pool record. Finishing second, the 400 free relay team of

Benjamin Chateigner touched the wall in 2:48.72, the best time in SMU history.
Due to inclement weather, SMU could not travel to LSU for the scheduled dual meet on Jan. 24. Most recently, the Mustang divers competed at the Tennessee Diving Invite on Jan. 7-9. SMU dominated the competition, sweeping all three diving events. Sitz took home the wins on 1-meter and 3-meter, posting scores of 396.25 and 434.50, respectively. Freshman
Grant Cates secured the SMU sweep with his victory on platform. Cates recorded a mark of 354.90. The three event victories for SMU were over five ranked opponents: [13/19] Alabama, [5/5] Florida, [14/12] LSU and [10/9] Tennessee.
Currently, the Mustangs have nine performances on this season's NCAA top-30 times list, including all five relays. In the 800 free relay, the squad consisting of
Brennan/Chateigner/Forrest/Sungail currently holds 12th place in the nation and fourth in the ACC with a time of 6:16.30. The team of
Sungail/Lockhart/Likins/Chateigner threw down a school record-breaking time of 2:48.72 in the 400 free relay, earning them 12th nationally. The same relay team ranks 22nd in the nation with a 200 free relay time of 1:16.95. A Mustang ranks in the top 30 nationally in the 200 back:
Jack Berube (1:40.15, 16th NCAA, 5th ACC). In the 400 medley relay,
Berube/Mikelsons/Sungail/Chateigner touched the wall in 3:05.89, good for 23rd in the nation. The same squad ranks 25th in the NCAA in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:24.51. Junior
Kristaps Mikelsons places 27th in the NCAA in the 100 breast with a time of 51.96. In the 200 breast, Mikelsons ranks 30th with a time of 1:53.69. In the NCAA,
Luke Sitz holds 21st place on 1-meter (404.05) and eighth place on 3-meter (433.05), both conference-leading performances.
