IRVING, Texas (SMU) - Akradi collected three first-place finishes last Friday as SMU defeated both Conference USA rival Houston and Wyoming on the campus of North Texas in Denton. Akradi helped her Mustangs down Houston, 157-82, and Wyoming, 165-78. SMU won 10 of the 13 events to gain the victory and improve its dual-meet record to 3-1.
Akradi touched the wall first in the 200-yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:06.83, two seconds ahead of her closest competition. The sophomore also took top honors in the 100-yard freestyle event in 52.08, narrowly out-touching teammate Jennifer Blackman. Her third win of the evening came as the lead-off leg (24.68) of SMU's winning 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:48.60).
Akradi's 200-yard IM time is the second-fastest C-USA time on season, while the Minnesota native also holds the fastest 2005 league time in the 100-yard backstroke (56.21), which she set Nov. 4 against No. 9 Texas.
SMU is now 3-1 on the season and returns to the pool this weekend, as the Ponies travel to College Station, Texas, to participate in the Aggie Invitational. The No. 7 Mustangs will swim against No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 14 Michigan, Houston, LSU and South Carolina.
