Mustang Fans Being Made In Iraq

May 5, 2005

When Randall Powell was activated for duty in the Army Reserve in December of 2004, he wanted something he could give the kids of Iraq, where he was stationed as part of a Military Intelligence unit.

David Miller, SMU Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations, knew just the thing to send, SMU Mustang t-shirts. After working with the SMU Athletic Marketing office, Miller sent somewhere between 250 and 300 t-shirts to Powell, who works in the Budget and Financial Planning Office at SMU, in Iraq.

Seven weeks later, Powell (pictured with some of the kids top right) received the t-shirts and has been passing them out while on ground duty in the city of Karbala working out of Camp Echo. The photos in this story are proof that Mustang fans are being made all around the world.

If you have any Mustang apparel you would like to send to Iraq, email David Miller at dsmiller@smu.edu for the mailing address.
