SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - SMU golfers and sisters Jennifer Ackerson and Kate Ackerson both made impressive runs in last weekend's 75th Trans Amateur at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club.

Junior-to-be Jennifer shot 76 to qualify for the championship flight and then advanced to the round of 16 before falling 5 & 4 to the nation's third-ranked amateur golfer, Taylor Leon. Incoming freshman Kate shot 82 in qualifying, but won the first flight by defeating Ohio State senior-to-be Brittany Adams 4 & 3.

"This is one of the country's most prestigious amateur golf tournaments," said SMU Coach Todd Selders. "I know they're happy with their results."

The Championship was contested at match play with a 36-hole stroke play qualifier to determine positions for match play and Medalist honors. The low 64 players qualified for Championship Flight and the reminder of the field were seeded in flights of 16.
