The SMU athletic department held its inaugural SMU Football Kickoff Luncheon Wednesday afternoon at the Radisson Hotel Central Dallas - Grand Ballroom. Over 400 people attended the successful event as the Mustangs enter their inaugural season in Conference USA. Rich Phillips, the voice of the Mustangs on KTCK 1310 AM, served as master of ceremonies.

Former Dallas Cowboy quarterback Roger Staubach served as keynote speaker while SMU head football coach Phil Bennett and Director of Athletics Jim Copeland addressed the crowd that included 28 sponsored tables. C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky also spoke during the luncheon.

Over 70 current SMU football players also attended and were assigned tables throughout the ballroom. The Mustangs get their 2005 season underway on Sept. 3 when they host Baylor.
