The Mustangs jumped out to a quick start in game one, leading till the 19-19 mark as Marshall slowly pulled closer. After that tie, the teams battled for the lead as the score flip-flopped almost every other point. It was Marshall who combined the two-point series at the end to win, 33-31.
Marshall saw the lead in game two but when the Mustang caught up, the squads fought for the lead. The leader changed almost every other time for a few points and then one team would take the few point lead before the points would begin to vary every other time again. With the last tie at 15-15, Marshall slowly began to pull ahead and then maintained the lead for a, 30-26, win.
SMU came out to a slow start in game three as they could not get their momentum going. With the score 16-10 in favor of Marshall, the Mustangs compiled a few different series of attacks to bring the score within one point at 21-20. Marshall could not shake the Mustangs off as SMU continued to battle forcing a tie at 28-28. But Marshall took the 30-28, win with a Mustang error and a Thundering Herd kill.
The Mustangs will host SFA on Tuesday for a non-conference match-up at 7:00 p.m. before heading back into conference play on the road at Tulane and UTEP.
