Kapolei, Hawaii (SMU) - SMU junior golfer Lacey Jones claimed her first win of the season on Wednesday, winning the Kent Youel Invitational at the 6,139-yard, par 72 Kapolei Golf Course. Jones fired a 3-over 219 for three rounds and bettered the field by three strokes. As a team, SMU tied for third place in the 18-team field at 913, just eight strokes back of team victor San Francisco.

Jones, an Idabel, Okla., native, fired rounds of 70, 74 and 75 to win the event. Mustang Kate Ackerson tied for fifth at 76-74-75-225, while sister Jennifer Ackerson tied for 15th at 79-76-76-231. Ashley Deatherage and Kristina Rothengatter rounded out the SMU squad at 80-84-76-240-T53 and 80-82-83-245-T70, respectively. Playing the tournament as an individual, Whitney Eckert shot 83-87-83-253 to tie for 80th

"I took the seniors (exception Laura Cross, who will redshirt the remainder of the year) that came in here four years ago and have led this program to where it is today, both in the classroom and golf course," said Head Coach Todd Selders. "They have been the hardest working group I have ever been around and I wanted to let them enjoy a trip to a pretty nice place. I was really happy that Lacey won, she has played some really good golf over the last two tournaments. Now we need to hit the books and get caught up in class before we head out for the NGCA Match Play next weekend."

Up next for SMU is a match-up with Vanderbilt at the 2006 Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship for Women, which will be held Nov. 3-5 at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
