The SMU volleyball team fell to the top-seeded Tulsa this afternoon, 3-0 (30-21, 30-16, 30-15) in the first game of the quarterfinal round at the Conference USA Championship hosted by Houston University. The Mustangs post a 17-15 overall record.
Adrienne Zielasko had one kill while Kendra Kahanek posted seven kills and two blocks. Caitlin Rainbird compiled four kills and eight digs as Natalie Peters lead with eight kills, three digs and two blocks. Rachel Giubilato notched seven kills and ten digs as Madison Hill directed the offense with 21 assists and one kill. Jenny Reyes had five digs while Stefanie Kons posted three assists and two digs. Kara Cornelius made two blocks and Candice Davis notched 14 digs.
The Mustangs started off quick in game one but Tulsa fought back to tie the score. The teams fought through seven ties and three lead changes as Tulsa took over at the 16-16 mark. Tulsa won game one, 30-21. In the first six points, there were three ties and three lead changes in game two. From there, Tulsa maintained the lead and took the, 30-16, win. Tulsa continued their momentum into game three as they contained the Mustang rallies. Tulsa won game three and the match, 30-15.
This concludes the Mustang season as NCAA selections will be announced Monday, Nov. 26. The winner of the Conference USA Championship receives the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA's.
