The Mustangs fell to Tulsa, the No. 1 team in Conference USA, 3-0 (30-24, 30-25, 30-26), this afternoon. SMU is 14-14 on the season and 5-9 in C-USA play.
Rachel Giubilato led the team as she notched another double-double on the season as she compiled 12 kills and 19 digs. Stefanie Kons directed the offense with 37 assists, two kills and nine digs while Kendra Kahanek posted 10 kills and four blocks. Caitlin Rainbird accounted for nine kills, nine digs and three blocks as Natalie Peters posted four kills one digs and five blocks. Madison Hill added seven digs and Adrienne Zielasko put down two kills and one block and dig. Candice Davis had 14 digs and one service ace.
Tulsa jumped out to a quick start in first game, never allowing the Mustangs to get their momentum started. Tulsa cruised to the, 30-24, win. In the first 14 points of the second game, there were five ties. The Mustangs were able to use their initial lead in the game to stay in front of Tulsa till the 16-16 mark. The teams went through five more ties and three lead changes with the last tie being at, 20-20. Tulsa slowly built the lead that carried out for a, 30-25, win.
In the third game, there were two quick ties and then the Mustangs maintained the lead. With Tulsa playing the catch-up game, SMU tried to stay on top as they fought off Tulsa through three more ties before the 23-23 mark when Tulsa took the lead. From there, the score was knotted one more time but Tulsa was able to stay in the lead as they took the, 30-26, win.
The Mustangs have two more matches left as the return home to close out their regular season. SMU will host Houston on Nov. 10 in a CSTV televised match at 7:00 p.m. and then will have Senior Day against Rice on No. 12 with the match starting at 1:00 p.m. SMU will then begin their post-season play in the Conference USA Championship in Houston, Nov. 16-19.
