DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU volleyball team announced their team awards this evening at their annual end of year banquet.
Junior Rachel Giubilato was honored with the team MVP award and the most kills award. Through out the season she was often ranked in the top 20 in the nation in kills per game. She posted 568 total kills and 4.66 kills per game this season. She climbed up ranks in several career records as well as setting season and school records. Senior Jennette Evanco was given the Mustang Award upon a team vote. After suffering a season-ending injury, Evanco continued her leadership on the bench demonstrating her dedication, determination and desire.
The Highest Hitting Efficiency was given to freshman Kendra Kahanek as she averaged .326 which also ranks at the top of the record book for a season percentage. Kahanek also garnered the Most Block award as she posted 122 blocks this season including 16 solo and 106 assisted. Freshman Candice Davis captured the Most Digs award as she compiled 524 digs and 4.44 digs per game. With 1016 assists this season and 11.16 per game, Stefanie Kons earned the Most Assist award. Caitlin Rainbird and Evanco, the team elected captains, were also honored.
