Mustangs Power Through On Day Two Of European Championships

HELSINKI, Finland (SMU) - The Mustangs kept running today in Helsinki as SMU sophomore Luka Vrtovec (Slovenia) represented his country in fine fashion at the European Short Course Championships.
Today Vrtovec focused on the 100 freestyle and again started the event in heat one where he put up an early benchmark of 48.68 seconds and a personal best time by over a second. That time held as the fastest time of the event through five heats and by the time all nine heats were completed, he had qualified for semi-finals in the 13th position. In the semi-finals Vrtovec attacked the race and improved his time to 48.59 seconds, touching the wall seventh in his heat which placed him 12th overall.
While Vrtovec has Saturday off, junior Alex Hetland will take to the blocks in his strongest events, the 50 breaststroke and the 100 IM. Vrtovec will compete again on Sunday in the 50 butterfly.
