Coach Bennett Signing Day P.C. (Mustang All-Access)
DALLAS (SMU) - On the heels of its best season in eight years, the SMU Mustangs have signed 16 high school student-athletes, Head Coach Phil Bennett announced on Wed., Feb.1.
Of the 16 signees, 12 will enroll at SMU in the fall, while four will be classified as "grayshirts" and will join the squad at a time to be determined after the Fall 2006 semester.
SMU again tapped its recruiting base by inking 14 players from the Lone Star state and two from neighboring Oklahoma.
"I said the day I was hired that we wanted to recruit Texas and a 300-mile radius around Dallas," said Bennett. "We did that again this year. You have to have good relationships with the high school coaches in Texas and in the region and we do. That certainly helped this year and it is something that we will build on as we continue towards our goal of winning championships at SMU."
