DALLAS (AP) - Mark Patton scored 36 points, including seven in overtime, to lead Marshall to a 75-72 victory over SMU on Wednesday night.
Patton gave Marshall (10-13, 3-7 Conference USA) the lead for good when he hit a 3-pointer to make it 73-72 with 1:09 left in overtime. He added a layup with 21 seconds left.
Dez Willingham hit three free throws with seven seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 65 and force overtime. He missed a 3-pointer as time expired in overtime.
Patton hit 13-of-17 from the field. He also had 13 rebounds.
Joe Miles came off the bench to score 12 points for Marshall. Markel Humphrey had 15 rebounds.
Bryan Hopkins led SMU (11-12, 3-7) with 21 points. Willingham added 18. Devon Pearson and Bamba Fall each had 10. Fall also had four blocked shots, tying the freshman record of 43 set by Ira Terrell in 1972-73.
Hopkins also had six steals to set a career-record at SMU with 215, breaking the record of Gerald Lewis who had 209 from 1989 to 1993.
