CHARLOTTE, N.C. (ACC/SMU) – SMU guard B.J. Edwards was named ACC Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced on Monday. Edwards averaged 21.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.5 steals while shooting 58.3% (14-24) overall and 6-of-12 on threes in victories over Wake Forest and Florida State.
 
In the 91-79 win at Wake Forest on Tuesday, Edwards had a career-high tying 24 points with eight rebounds, seven assists, six steals and a blocked shot while hitting 8-of-13 from the field and 3-of-5 from three in the road win. It was his third game this season with at least 20 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals. He is the only player in the nation with multiple games like that this season. Edwards followed that with 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists and a steal in the 83-80 win over Florida State on Saturday.
 
For the season, Edwards is averaging 14.2 points (21^st ACC), 5.9 rebounds (23^rd ACC), 5.4 assists (7^th ACC, 48^th NCAA) and 2.6 steals (1^st ACC, 9^th NCAA) while shooting 48.6% overall, 36.0% on threes (31-86) and 75.4% on free throws. He is also one of two players nationally with two triple-doubles this season.
 
This is the fourth ACC Player of the Week honor for SMU, tying Duke (all by Cameron Boozer) for the lead in the league this season. The Mustangs are the only team to have multiple players earn the honor this season as Boopie Miller was the ACC Player of the Week on Jan. 5 after Edwards previously earned the award on Nov. 24 and Dec. 29.
 
SMU is 15-5 overall with a 4-3 ACC record in the second season under Head Coach Andy Enfield. The Mustangs are averaging 87.3 points (2^nd ACC, 21^st NCAA) and 17.8 assists (2^nd ACC, 23^rd NCAA) while shooting 49.4% (3^rd ACC, 25th NCAA) overall. Five Mustangs are averaging double figures in scoring: Boopie Miller (19.4, 7^th ACC, 50^th NCAA), Jaron Pierre Jr. (17.5, 8^th ACC), B.J. Edwards (14.2, 21^st ACC), Corey Washington (11.2, 45^th ACC) and Samet Yigitoglu (10.5, 53^rd ACC).
