DALLAS (SMU) - The No. 20 men's swimming team was not able to overcome No. 5 Texas this afternoon at the Perkins Natatorium on the SMU campus. The Longhorns won 153.5 to 123.5.
Alex Hetland won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 54.20 which is a new season and career high. Luka Vrtovec added one more win as he took the 100 yard butterfly with new season and career time of 48.94.
Per Nylin and Emilio Garmendia took first and second in the 50 yard freestyle with times of 20.60 and 20.91, respectively. Philip Griffin took first in the one-meter diving with a score of 328.87. After the one meter diving event, the teams were tied at 74.5.
Besides the 200 yard freestyle relay, the Mustangs were not able to take any more first place finishes. The relay of Vrtovec, Hetland, Nylin and Garmendia won first with a time of 1:19.86.
The Mustangs will return to the waters Feb. 22-25 at the C-USA Championships.
