EAST MEADOW, New York (SMU) - 15 swimmers from the SMU women's swimming and diving team competed in a star-filled event this weekend as they were part of the FINA World Cup. Each swimmer represented their country as well as SMU. The swimmers posted impressive times and finishes at the Nassau Country Aquatic Center.
Petra Klosova (Czech) placed 5th in the 100 meter freestyle with a time of 55.07 along with Leane Darling (USA) placing 7th with a time of 55.76. Tamara Sambrailo (Slovenia) finished 5th in the 50 meter breaststroke with a time of 32.34, Laura Pomeroy and Jennifer Basel also placed 7th and 8th.
In the 100 meter backstroke, Aja Carman (Slovenia) and Roxane Akradi (USA) placed 6th and 7th respectively, with times of 1:01.85 and 1:03.31. Flavia Rigamonti (Switzerland) placed 3rd in the 400 meter freestyle while Kathleen Roberts USA) placed 5th in the same event.
Sambrailo placed 6th in the 200 meter breaststroke with a time of 2:34.78 and Sarah Nordenstam (Norway) finished 8th in the same event. Klosova finished 7th in the 100 meter individual medley while Katie Eason (USA) placed 8th.
The women will return to the waters for the C-USA Championships Feb. 22-24.
