Pair of Swimmers Make a Splash for NCAA Berth

COLUMBIA, Missouri (SMU) - A pair of SMU swimmers made a splash today as they competed in day one of the NCAA Zone D Diving Championship hosted by the University of Missouri. The swimmers are looking for NCAA berths as they have two more days of competition.

Philip Griffin took second place in the three-meter diving event with a score of 707.80 (scores roll over from prelims to finals). Griffin was the only diver from Conference USA in the competition as Eric Sehn of Texas A&M won the event with a score of 747.85.

Mustang diver, Kristin Schild was one of the four divers that represented CUSA in the one-meter event as she placed 13th with a score of 458.65. The top two places were grabbed by Houston divers while third and fourth places were filled with divers from the University of Texas. Tania Cagnotto from Houston won the event with a score of 580.45.

The 2006 NCAA Zone D Diving Championships will continue tomorrow at the Mizzou Aquatics Center at 10 a.m. with the men on the one-meter board, followed by the women on the three-meter.
