DALLAS (SMU) - The #43 SMU women's team defeated Arkansas St. this afternoon, 6-0. The Mustangs improve to 9-5 on the season with the sweep in singles action.

At the No. 1 spot, Svetlana Kouzmenko downed Marina Engelbiecht, 6-4, 6-1. Natalia Bubien defended the No. 2 position with a, 6-3, 6-1, win over Maria Oprea. Georgiana Marta was victorious at the No. 3 slot against Zeljka Minic, 6-0, 6-2. Kristen Reid upended Paula Chemlminska, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 4 position. Brooke Rambally battled Renee Branker at the No. 5 spot and won with the tiebreaker, 6-2, 3-6, 13-11. Halley Rambally faced Karen Saravia at the No. 6 slot and won 6-0, 6-1.

"It was a good performance by the entire team," head coach Rob Howarth said. "We are definitely headed in the right direction to play a good match on Sunday against Arkansas. Our preparation has been good."

The Mustangs have a day off and then return to the courts Sun., March 19 at noon to battle # 64 Arkansas.
