AUSTIN (SMU) - Playing in a steady downpour for the second straight day, the SMU women's golf team shot a final round 324 to finish in sixth place at the 33rd-annual Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the University of Texas Golf Club. As a team, SMU carded rounds of 305 and 312 over the first 36 holes to finish at 941, 34 shots behind winner Duke (907).
Only one of SMU's five golfers broke 80 over the final 18. Lacey Jones shot 78 to finish at 234 and tie for 16th. Kristina Rothengatter's 83 saw her finish tied for 22nd at 236. Jennifer Ackerson (84) and Laura Cross (82) tied for 29th at 237. Kate Ackerson (81) took 52nd at 243.
"The weather was really bad today and we just didn't play as well as we could have," said Head Coach Todd Selders. "We played really well the first two days and were in a position to challenge on Sunday. That's encouraging. I'm proud of our team, though, because as bad as the weather was, no one complained and each tried as best as she could. I know that we'll bounce back for our next tournament."
