HOUSTON (SMU) - The SMU women's tennis team swept Texas Southern at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium on the campus of Rice University on Saturday. The 7-0 win completed a weekend sweep after topping Rice 4-3 on Friday.
"This was a nice match for everyone to continue to gain confidence," said head coach Rob Howarth. "We are looking forward to the trip to El Paso next week."
The Mustangs (12-5) started the sweep by winning the doubles points. Svetlana Kouzmenko and Natalia Bubien won 8-2 in No. 1 doubles, Monica Neveklovska and Kristen Reid domintade 8-1 in No. 2 doubles, and Brooke Rambally and Halley Rambally scored the 8-1 win in No. 3 doubles.
The Mustangs swept the singles in dominant fashion, losing just seven games among the 12 total sets. The Mustangs scored 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 1 by Kouzmenko, at No. 5 from Brooke Rambally, and at No. 6 by Neveklovska. Bubien won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, Geogiana Marta cruised 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, and Reid took care of business 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles.
The Mustangs face UTEP, New Mexico State, and Houston in El Paso next weekend.
