FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (SMU) - The SMU women's swimming team is having a great outing at the 2006 Spring Championships.
In the morning session, Roxane Akradi began the day by placing 16th in the 100 back with a time of 1:05.47 qualifying for B-Final in the evening session. Flavia Rigamonti posted a good outing in the 400 free as she came in at 2nd place and a time of 4:16.44. Katie Roberts posted a time of 4:21.47 for a 13th-place finish while Anja Carman touched in at 19th place and a time of 4:22.26. All three swimmers in the 400 free qualified for the finals. Leane Darling just missed out on the finals as she placed 27th in the 100 fly with a time of 1:03.71.
Akradi placed 8th in the B-Final with a time of 1:05.47 in the 100 free while Rigamonti posted a time of 4:15.14 for a 2nd-place finish in the 400 free. Roberts placed 3rd in the B-Final with a time of 4:20.02 and Carman placed 3rd in the C-Final with a time of 4:21.64. Each final consisted of eight swimmers.
Swimming in the 5th lane, the relay of Darling, Candace Blackman, Jennifer Blackman and Akradi took 1st-place with a time of 3:48.79 with the closest relay almost two seconds behind.
The last day will consists of the 1500 free where Rigamonti is expected to take 1st place and Carman 22nd. With a seeding of 49th and 66th, respectively, Tamara Sambrailo and Katie Eason will compete in the 200 IM. The 50 free will see four swimmers. C. Blackman is seeded at 6th, Michelle Vlasakova 38th, J. Blackman 39th and Akradi 44th. Luka Vrotvec of the SMU men's team will also compete in the Men's 50 Free with a 6th place seeding. The 400 medley relay will wrap-up the night with a 5th place seeding.
