FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (SMU) - The SMU swimmers had a great outing this week at the Spring Championship and they continued their impressive showings tonight. The team finished in 4th place overall while six Mustangs received individual rankings over hundreds of other swimmers.
In the prelims, Tamara Sambrailo swam in the 200 medley and touched in at 2:28.33 while placing 75th. The 50 free saw many showings from SMU as Candace Blackman posted a time of 26.43 for 5th place and Leane Darling placed 19th with a time of 26.98, both earning a spot in the finals.
Jennifer Blackman tied at 34th in the 50 free with a time of 27.30 while Michelle Vlaskova tied at 46th with a time of 27.47.
Later in the evening session, Flavia Rigamonti took 1st-place in the 1500 free with a time of 16:24.56 while Anja Carman took 6th-place with a time 16:56.58. In the 50 free, C. Blackman placed 6th in the A-final with a time of 26.44. Darling swam a time of 26.82 and placed 5th in the C-final.
Luka Vrotvec of the men's team competed in the 50 free with a time of 23.41 and 3rd place in the prelims. For the finals, he knocked time off and touched in for 2nd-place and a time of 23.09.
In individual rankings, C. Blackman came in at 14th, Rigamonti tied at 20th and J. Blackman placed tied at 33rd. Katie Roberts finished tied at 49th, Tamara Sambrailo tied at 96th and Roxane Akradi tied at 110th.
