OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (SMU) - The SMU Rowing team competed in the 39th Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championship Regatta Saturday on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The Mustangs rowed two crews, a varsity and JV 8.

Racing in a heat against Kansas, Purdue, Cincinnati, UNC and Cal State, the Mustang JV 8 placed 4th with time of 07:12.4 while they advanced on to the B Final placing 2nd with a time of 07:15.5.

The Varsity 8 raced against Tulsa, Miami, Kansas, UNC-Chapel Hill and Jacksonville in their heat. The crew placed 6th with time of 07:07.8. Advancing to the B Final, they rowed a time of 07:08.3 for 1st place.

The squads return to action Sat., April 22 at the Midwest Intercollegiate Championships in Omaha, Neb.
