GREENVILLE, N.C. (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team jumped three spots into a second-place tie at the Conference USA Women's Golf Championship at the par-72, 6,221-yard Ironwood Golf & Country Club. SMU repeated its first-round total of 298 and stand at 596 for 36 holes, tied with Tulsa and trailing only host East Carolina by five shots.
Individually, SMU's Jennifer Ackerson was two shots better than anyone in the field on Tuesday, carding a 4-under 68 to move into a first-place tie with UTEP's Gerina Mendoza at 1-under 143 for 36 holes. With her performance, Ackerson tied the C-USA championship record for low round.
Lacey Jones also stands in the top 10, as the sophomore shot 75 on Tuesday and is at 4-over 148. Kristina Rothengatter (19th) and Kate Ackerson (T-20th) each rank in the top 20, as they sit at 8-over 152 and 9-over 153, respectively. Laura Cross (22nd) rounds out the SMU team at 10-over 154.
Final-round action tees off at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The winner of the C-USA Championship receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.
