RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team stands in third place following two rounds of play at the Northwestern Invitational, which is being played the Gary Player Signature Course at the Westin Mission Hills Resort.

SMU (579) carded rounds of 288 & 291 on day one and are just seven shots out of second place. No. 23 Kent State leads the event at 555.

Leading the way for SMU are juniors Jennifer Ackerson (72-73) and Laura Cross (74-71), who are tied for seventh at 1-over 145. Kristina Rothengatter is one shot back of her teammates at 2-over 146 and is tied for 17th. Lacey Jones (71-76) and Kate Ackerson (75-72) are tied for 22nd at 147.

The 14-team tournament wraps up with 18 holes set for Tuesday morning.
