NORMAN, Okla. (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team stands in second place following two rounds at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at the 6,013-yard, par-72 Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course. SMU's back-to-back rounds of 298 have them tied with Texas at 596 and trailing only leader Oklahoma State (567).
On the heels of setting new round and tournament records at last weekend's Northwestern Invitational, SMU looks to continue its hot streak, but the 17-team field is loaded, with Arkansas-Little Rock, Baylor, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, North Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, Oral Roberts, Missouri State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UTEP and Wichita State joining the `Stangs, Horns and Cowgirls.
Laura Cross (74-73) and Lacey Jones (73-74) are tied for 11th individually at 3-over 147. Jennifer Ackerson (75-76) is tied for 28th at 7-over 151, while Kate Ackerson (76-77) and Kristina Rothengatter (78-75) are two shots back of Jennifer in 37th at 9-over 153.
The final 18 holes of the tournament are set for Monday, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
