Sept. 22, 2006
DALLAS (SMU) - On the heels of a record-setting win over Sam Houston State, the SMU Mustangs look to keep their momentum as they host the Arkansas State Indians in the first-ever meeting between the two schools on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. in Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
SMU will be led by quarterback Justin Willis, who had a had a breakout game against Sam Houston, throwing scoring tosses of 32, 11, 30, 13 and 25 yards to five different receivers and adding a two-yard touchdown run. With his 291.2 efficiency rating for the game, Willis vaulted from 74th to second in the NCAA passer ratings and leads Conference USA at 177.47 for the season.
SMU will face a stiff challenge from Arkansas State, however, as the Indians are coming off a Sun Belt Conference championship in 2005. ASU sits at 1-1 in 2006, having defeated an Army team, 14-6, that nearly bettered Texas A&M last week.
