TULSA, OKLA. - Jillian Robbins had 19 points and Valerie Siemens scored 14 as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane defeated the SMU women's basketball team, 74-55, Sunday afternoon at the Reynolds Center in Tulsa, Okla. SMU freshmen guard Jillian Samuels led the Mustangs with 17 points - one shy of tying her career-high mark.
Tulsa led from the opening tip and never relinquished the lead Sunday, leading by as many as 25 points during the conference contest. Samuels recorded her 17 points on 5-of-18 shooting, including 4-of-11 from the three-point line. Junior Janielle Dodds and freshman Delisha Wills each scored 11 points for the Mustangs, while redshirt freshman Brittany Gilliam chipped-in with 10 points. The Mustangs were out rebounded 41-29. Robbins led Tulsa with 12 boards, recording a double-double on the afternoon.
SMU's 20 first-half points were the second-fewest scored this season and the Mustangs' 54 game points were the fewest scored by SMU in conference play so far. In addition, SMU was without the services of its two starting guards (Katy Cobb and Sharee Shepherd) who were injured.
With the win, Tulsa improves to 7-11 and 2-4 in Conference USA play. The Mustangs fall to 11-7 and 3-3 in conference play for the year. SMU returns to the hardwood Thursday, Jan. 25 when the Mustangs travels to Houston, Texas, to face conference foe Rice (10-9, 3-3 C-USA). Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. The Owls defeated Houston Sunday afternoon by the score of 70-56.
