KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team stands in 14th place following the opening round of the 2007 Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships at the par-71, 5,932-yard Cherokee Country Club. As a team, SMU carded a 18-over 302. Arkansas, ranked 20th in the nation, leads the 17-team event at 1-over 285.

Individually, senior Lacey Jones led the Mustangs on day one, shooting a 1-over 72 to tie for 18th. Kathleen Ekey of Alabama holds the individual lead at 3-under 68. Other Mustang results included Tia Gannon at 75, Laura Cross and Stephanie Hwang at 76, Kate Ackerson at 79 and Paige Martin at 83.

The 54-hole tournament runs through Sunday, with rounds of 18 holes being played each day.
