KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team moved up to 13th place following a strong second round at the 2007 Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships at the par-71, 5,932-yard Cherokee Country Club. As a team, SMU carded a 296, shaving six strokes off their first-round effort. SMU now stands at 598 for 36 holes. Florida leads the team event at 577.
Individually, senior Lacey Jones continues to lead the Mustangs, shooting a 2-over 73 in round two to stand in a tie for 14th at 145. Kathleen Ekey of Alabama holds the individual lead at 4-under 138. Kate Ackerson rebounded nicely in round two, shooting a team-low 72, and now stands in a 45th-place tie at 151 with teammates Tia Gannon (75-76) and Laura Cross (76-75). Paige Martin also saved strokes in round two, shooting 77, and is 89th at 160. Stephanie Hwang, playing as an individual, is 62nd at 153 (76-77).
The 54-hole tournament runs through Sunday, with rounds of 18 holes being played each day.
