LAS VEGAS, Nev. (SMU) - SMU senior Lacey Jones is in a tie for seventh place following the opening round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at the 6,083-yard, par-72 Angel Park Golf Club. Jones carded a 1-under 71 over the first 18 holes and is just four shots off the lead.
The rest of the SMU squad seemed to struggle a bit on day one as no other Mustang shot below 75. Tia Gannon's 75 had her 41st, while Paige Martin's 77 left her 58th. Sarah Dodson and Kate Ackerson both had uncharacteristically tough days, shooting 79 and 81, respectively.
As a team, SMU is 13th in the 18-team field, which includes nine squads currently ranked in Golfweek's top 30. SMU's team total of 14-over 302 was 20 shots back of leader and 12th-ranked Tennessee.
The second round of the 54-hole event gets underway on Tuesday with teams teeing off of holes 1 and 10 at 9:30 a.m. (CT). Wednesday's final round will begin with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
