Mustangs Swimming at European Short Course Championships

DEBRECEN, Hungary (SMU)--Three current members of the SMU women's swimming and diving team are competing in the European Short Course Championships. Petra Klosova, Angela San Juan Cisneros and Anja Carman are each swimming for their native countries, competing in the championships held Dec. 13-16.
During the competition, heats are held each morning in various strokes and the semifinals and final rounds are held in the evening session. Women's competition began Thursday morning with heats in 50m free, 100m back, 200m fly, 200m IM and 100m free.
Klosova and Carman both participated in the Thursday morning sessions. Klosova swam in the fourth heat of the 100m free. She touched the wall in 55.91, good for 33rd overall. The mark was not fast enough to qualify her for the semifinal round. Klosova also competed in the 100m back heats, swimming in the first heat, clocking a time of 1:01.53, qualifying for the semifinals. In the semis, Klosova improved her time to 1:00.31, good for 12th overall, but only the top eight moved on to the finals.
Carman also swam in the 100m back, touching the wall in 59.19, the second-fastest time overall. In the semifinals, Carman also improved her time, stopping the clock at 59.03, good for seventh place. Carman advanced to the finals, to be held Friday.
When competition resumes Friday, San Juan Cisneros is expected to compete in the 50m fly, Klosova will swim the 100m IM and Carman will swim in the 100m back final. Former Mustang Flavia Rigamonti will swim in the 800m free Friday as well.
