Women's Basketball Stumbles At Manhattan

NEW YORK, N.Y. (SMU) - Senior guard Katy Cobb, sophomore guard Jillian Samuels and senior forward Sharee Shepherd combined for 46 points, but the Mustangs came up short at Manhattan, 70-60.

The loss was the Mustangs' first since the season opener after eight consecutive victories and dropped the Ponies to 8-2. Manhattan improved to 7-4.

Cobb led the way for the Ponies with 17 points, Samuels added 16 and Shepherd chipped in with 13. Shepherd also pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds, the most by a Mustang since Sarah Davis yanked down 18 boards against UTEP in February 2004.

The Mustangs return to action Friday afternoon when they take on Hofstra at 1 p.m. (central time) in a game that can be heard on KKGM (1630 AM).
