DALLAS (AP) -- Derrick Roberts scored 15 points for SMU, which hit 24 of 36 free throws in the second half to beat Prairie View A&M 57-49 on Thursday night at Moody Coliseum. Bamba Fall came off the bench to score 12 points and pull down nine rebounds for the Mustangs (5-5), which came from behind. Fall also had four blocks and hit 8-of-12 free throws.
Prairie View (2-8) was led by Brian Ezeh's 11 points and 10 rebounds, both highs for the Panthers.
Prairie View led 33-27 early in the second half when SMU began coming back. SMU led the rest of the way after Roberts hit a 3-pointer for a 36-33 lead.
SMU finished with a season-high tying 13 steals and had a 17-5 advantage on points off turnovers. Mike Walker led the Mustangs with five steals. Papa Dia had three takeaways.
The Mustangs hit 30 of 45 free throws for the game, and the Panthers' Blake Thompson and Jonathan Dixon both fouled out. Nine SMU players went to the line during the game. Both teams were cold shooting from the field, with Prairie View shooting 31 percent and SMU 32 percent for the game.
The Ponies next games are part of the inaugural SMU Holiday Classic. The Mustangs face Texas State on Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. and the Stephen F. Austin on Dec. 30 at 4:30 p.m.
