PARRISH, Fla. (SMU) - Despite playing without two of its All-Conference golfers, the SMU women's golf team rebounded from a tough opening round to post a second-round 306 on Monday at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla. SMU carded a team 627 (321-306) for two rounds at the par-72, 6,099-yard River Wilderness Golf Club to stand in 13th place.
Two-time All-League golfers Jennifer Ackerson and Laura Cross and freshman Sarah Dodson are not playing this week. Cross is redshirting this season while Ackerson and Dodson should return soon.
Leading the way for SMU at the Central District is Kate Ackerson, who stands in third at 1-over 145 (74-71) and Lacey Jones, who is tied for 18th at 7-over 151 (79-72). Other SMU entrants include Ashley Deatherage (85-79-164-T65), Kristina Rothengatter (83-86-169-T70) and Michelle Cronan (91-84-175-72).
Eleven of the 14 teams in the field are ranked in the top 50 nationally by Golfweek. In addition to SMU, competing schools include Arkansas, Baylor, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre Dame, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M and Tulsa.
