PARRISH, Fla. (SMU) - Sophomore standout Kate Ackerson carded a final-round 75 to finish at 4-over 220 and finish fifth at this week's Central District Invitational at the par-72, 6,099-yard River Wilderness Golf Club. Ackerson also scored her first career hole-in-one, acing the 138-yard seventh hole during the second round.
Playing without two of its All-Conference golfers, Jennifer Ackerson and Laura Cross, and another starter, Sarah Dodson, SMU placed 12th at 940 in the loaded field, bettering Nebraska and Tulsa.
Lacey Jones, moved up into a 12th-place tie on the final day, finishing at 8-over 224 (79-72-73). Other SMU entrants included Ashley Deatherage (85-79-80-244-T65), Kristina Rothengatter (83-86-85-254-T71) and Michelle Cronan (91-84-87-262-73).
"Without three of our starters, we were forced to play some student-athletes who didn't have opportunities to play extensively last season," said Head Coach Todd Selders. "While we've never had to go this deep into our bench in my time here at SMU, I certainly appreciate the hard work and efforts of the girls we brought to this event."
