AUSTIN (SMU) - The SMU men's swimming team posted another solid showing at the second day of the 2007 American Short Course Championships. The Mustang relays continued their winning ways as they took first and second in the 200 medley relays.
Maverick Smalley started the night off for the Mustangs with a sixth-place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 3:58.44 while Chris Ginder swam a time of 4:06.33 for 13th-place.
In the 100 breast, Alex Hetland touched in for second-place with a time of 53.61 and Grega Plevelj placed seventh with a time of 56.16. Mitchell Johnson followed in eighth with a time of 56.20 and Ian Clark clocked in at 55.96 for ninth-place. Patrick Raschle timed in at 58.74 in 19th-place while Daniel Veale finished with a time of 59.63 in 24-place. Matt Hock swam a time of 1:02.85.
Renholm led the way for the Mustangs in the 100 back with a time of 48.76 for fourth-place while I. Clark stopped the clock at 48.90 in fifth-place.
In the 200 free, Shane Milu touched the wall in seventh-place with a time of 1:39.77 as Nate Clark and Justin Smith touched in at 12th and 13th respectively. N. Clark swam a time of 1:40.12 and Smith stopped the clock at 1:40.83. Travis Callaghan timed his at 1:43.59 for 22nd-place and Brett Denham swam a time of 1:42.83 in 33rd-place.
The Mustang relays took first and second in the 200 medley relay. The first-place relay team consisted of Renholm, Hetland, Luka Vrtovec and Thomas Fadnes as they touched in at 1:27.83. I. Clark, Johnson, Denham and Milu combined for a second-place time of 1:31.49.
The Championships will conclude tomorrow with prelims in the morning and finals in the evening.
