AUSTIN (SMU) - Lacey Jones is tied for third and the SMU women's golf team is tied for sixth following the opening round of the 34th-annual Betsy Rawls Invitational at the par-72, 6,323-yard University of Texas Golf Club.
Jones leads SMU after carding an opening-round 73. Kelly Louth of host Texas leads at 3-under 69. Kate Ackerson also cracked the top-25, tying for 24th at 6-over 78. Ashley Deatherage (80 - T-41), Kristina Rothengatter (82 - T-57) and Sarah Dodson (85 - T-78) round out the SMU squad. SMU is still without seniors Jennifer Ackerson and Laura Cross, who are currently sidelined.
In addition to SMU and Texas, the tournament features Arkansas, Purdue, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Minnesota, TCU, Kansas, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Iowa, Penn State and Baylor.
The tournament field is playing 18 holes each day through Sunday, March 18, with tee times beginning at 8:15 a.m. Central from the first and 10th holes.
