DENTON, Texas (SMU) - The No. 48 SMU women's tennis team blanked North Texas this afternoon, 7-0, extending their win-streak to 10 and advancing their record to 18-4 on the season. The Mustangs took wins at every spot on the line-up.
In doubles, Natalia Bubien and Claire Rietsch paired for a, 8-2, win over Megan Schmulbach and Aziza Aba Butain to notch their 16th doubles win at No. 1 while the No. 2 tandem of Jennifer Chay and Pavi Francis swept Mary Poe and Hollie Caras, 8-0, marking their 10th win at No. 2 doubles. Monica Neveklovska and Kristen Reid notched their fifth consecutive doubles win as they took the, 8-3, decision over Idalina Franca and Emi Itabashi.
Bubien outlasted Franca at No. 1, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), to notch her 10th win at No. 1 singles this season while Chay posted her seventh straight singles win with a, 6-3, 6-2, victory over Schmulbach. Francis powered past Aba Butain at No. 3, 6-3, 6-1, as she extended her singles winning streak to eight and Reid posted a strait set sweep over Caras at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0. Georgiana Marta topped Poe at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1, and Neveklovska defeated Itabashi at No. 6, 6-1, 6-4.
The Mustangs will conclude their regular season schedule at home as they host Conference USA foe, UTEP this Sat., April 14 with the first serve scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Garland Tennis Center. Mustang seniors Chay and Marta will be honored before the match.
