Oneonta, Ala. (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team placed three golfers on the five-person All-Conference USA golf team on Wednesday, the highest-ever total for an SMU women's golf squad, as Jennifer and Kate Ackerson and Lacey Jones earned honors.
Jones was a first-team pick in 2006, while Jennifer was a second-teamer and Kate was a third-team selection a year ago.
The SMU team, playing without Jones, who is sidelined with a foot injury, then went out and tied for third at the 2007 Conference USA Women's Golf Championship at the par-72, 6,161-yard Limestone Springs Golf Club. SMU finished in a tie with UCF and UTEP at 922 after carding a final-round 305. SMU finished just 10 strokes back of champion Memphis (912).
Individually, Kate Ackerson took third at 73-75-75-223 and sister Jennifer Ackerson tied for fifth at 77-75-73-225. Kristina Rothengatter tied for 17th at 81-78-77-236, while Ashley Deatherage tied for 32nd at 77-84-86-247. Sarah Dodson's 89-81-80-250 was good for a 39th-place tie.
