BANGKOK, Thailand (SMU)-- Flavia Rigamonti continues to have great success at the 2007 World University Games, winning the women's 1500m freestyle event on Monday and setting another games record.
She finished the race in 16:05.90, over 21 seconds faster than her nearest competitor. Rigamonti beat the previous games record (set in 2005) by a little more than two seconds.
Current Mustang Angela San Juan Cisneros competed in the 50m butterfly Monday as well. San Juan Cisneros finished fourth, completing the race in 26.85, four one-hundredths of second behind first.
Jonathon Newton swam the 50m butterfly, finishing tied for 12th in a field of 70 competitors. Newton completed the extremely tight race with a time of 24.71. A margin of less than one second separated first from 16th. Newton is scheduled to swim the 50m freestyle on Tuesday, August 14.
