LUBBOCK, Texas (SMU)--SMU volleyball remains unbeaten, as it trounced Villanova in three straight games (30-24, 32-30, 30-18) in their second match of the Red Raider Round Up at Texas Tech.
Once again, SMU's offence was unstoppable by the opposition. Senior outside hitter Rachel Giubilato led the Mustang offense, notching a double-double against the Wildcats, with 18 kills and 12 digs. Freshman Kathryn Wilkerson continues to make her presence known, pounding out 11 kills and hitting .360 in the match, with seven digs. Junior Natalie Peters led the Mustangs in hitting, as she pulled down an accuracy of .429 with seven kills. Senior Caitlin Rainbird contributed another nine kills, as the Mustang offense combined for a total of 48 kills for the afternoon.
Defensively, Giubilato led the team in block solos, managing two against the Wildcats. Peters had six block assists to lead the Mustangs, while Rainbird added four more. Junior setter Stefanie Kons tallied 43 assists in the match and contributed seven digs. Sophomore libero Candice Davis had 12 digs to lead the team.
As a team, the Mustangs held the Wildcats to a .137 hitting percentage overall, and just .029 in the third game, while SMU hit .302 combined. The Mustangs improve to 5-0 on the season, while Villanova falls to 1-2.
