DURHAM, N.H.--The SMU volleyball team lost to New Hampshire Saturday night in three straight games (26-30, 24-30, 26-30). Rachel Giubilato and Kathryn Wilkerson were named to the All-Tournament team for their performances.
Giubilato and Wilkerson both notched double-doubles against UNH. Giubilato pounded out 11 kills and 15 digs, while Wilkerson racked up 13 kills and 12 digs.
The Wildcats jumped out to a quick lead in game one, taking the first three points. New Hampshire widened their lead to 5-1 before the Mustangs responded with three points of their own, bringing the score to 5-4. SMU stayed within striking distance the entire game, tying twice, but were never able to catch the Wildcats, who put the game away, 26-30.
Game two saw the Mustangs score the first three points, but the Wildcats quickly caught up, scoring six straight. Despite tying the game three times, the Mustangs were unable to overtake New Hampshire. The Wildcats won, 22-30.
In the third game, SMU started down by a point, but took the lead in the third point. The Mustangs built up a seven-point lead before the Wildcats crept back into the game. Finally in the 45th point, New Hampshire overtook the Mustangs and eventually put the game out of reach, 26-30.
The Mustangs hit .189 on the night, while the Wildcats held the advantage in kills (57-46), digs (55-54) and assists (54-39).
