ANN ARBOR, Mich. (SMU) - SMU junior Kate Ackerson tied for second place at the 2007 Wolverine Invitational at the par-71, 6,098-yard U-M Golf Course after carding a 76 over Sunday's final round. Ackerson, a native of Allen, shot 74-71-76 over the two-day event to take runner-up honors and finished just two shots behind medalist Stefany Fleet of Eastern Michigan. SMU senior Lacey Jones also claimed a top-10 finish, shooting 74-71-81 to take seventh.
As a team, SMU finished in a tie for sixth at 926 following a 320 on Sunday. In addition to SMU, the 10-team field included Bradley, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, Michigan, Notre Dame, Toledo, Tulsa and Wisconsin. Notre Dame won the event at 904.
In her first tournament for the Mustangs in over year, senior Laura Cross was consistent, carding a 80-79-80 to tie for 35th. Freshman Paige Martin shot 78-80-83 to tie for 40th, while Tia Gannon rounded out the SMU team in 45th at 81-79-83. Newcomer Stephanie Hwang, who competed as an individual, tied for 49th at 76-83-88.
