DALLAS (AP) -Bamba Fall's jump shot with 22.8 seconds remaining in overtime gave SMU a 69-67 win over UCF on Saturday night. The Mustangs knock UCF from ranks of unbeaten in Conference USA games.
The Knights had one more shot, but leading scorer Jermaine Taylor missed as time expired. Taylor finished with 26 points.
Jon Killen, who got the assist on Fall's game-winner, finished with a career-high 28 points to lead the Mustangs (7-11, 1-4 Conference USA). Fall had 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Killen also had seven assists and six rebounds while hitting 10-of-17 from the field and 7-of-13 from 3-point range. His seven three-pointers are tied for the second-most in school history.
Derrick Roberts added nine points and five rebounds for SMU. He also had a critical offensive rebound and free throw to give SMU a 62-59 lead with 30-seconds left in regulation. Taylor then hit a three-pointer with 12 seconds left to send the game to overtime. Dave Noel had 12 points for the Knights (11-8, 4-1). Tony Davis grabbed 10 rebounds.
The game featured eight lead changes and six ties.
Central Florida led 38-28 at the break but was outscored 34-24 in the second half.
In C-USA games, Killen is now averaging 18.2 points, 7.2 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals while shooting 53.8 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from 3-point range.
The Mustangs visit Tulsa on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 8 p.m. The game is nationally televised by CSTV.
