Senior setter Stefanie Kons also had a solid performance recording three kills and 13 assists. Defensively, senior Natalie Peters had three solo blocks, while junior Carly Bergquist registered a team-high seven digs.
To lead off the third set, the Mustangs fell behind early 6-0 under pressure from the strong serving of Tulane. The Mustangs struggled to get back on track, but Tulane's Bridget Wells was too much offensively, registering five kills and a .833 hitting percentage. Peters worked hard at the net recording all three of her solo blocks in the set, as well as going two for three in kills. Peters is now seven kills from breaking the all-time total career blocks mark for SMU.
In the second set, SMU was forced to call a timeout at 7-12 and were able to come back focused, with Peters and Kons recording back to back kills. The comeback was short lived, however, as Tulane's offensive power continued to roll hitting a .545 for the set. For the Mustangs, Kahanek was persistent on offense hitting four kills and a .571.
Tulane pulled out in front early in the second set using strong offense. Four players recorded over .500 hitting percentage for the Green Wave, creating defensive difficulties for SMU. Kahanek played enthusiastically killing the ball twice in front of the ten-foot line in attempts to stop the Green Wave attack. She recorded a .500 hitting percentage for the set.
The Mustangs will hit the road this weekend heading to Memphis where they will play the Tigers on Friday at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, they will travel to UAB for match play at 12:00 p.m.
