DALLAS (SMU) - Four players scored in double figures to lead the SMU women's basketball team to an 82-70 victory over the Houston Jaguars in an exhibition game Tuesday night at Moody Coliseum.
Junior forward Delisha Wills, a third-team All-Conference USA honoree in 2007-08, led the Mustangs with 15 points, followed by junior guard Jillian Samuels, who set a single-season SMU record last year with 72 three-pointers and contributed 14 points, including three baskets from behind the three-point line. Junior Brittany Gilliam had a double-double, with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman forward Morgan Shell added 10 points in her debut with the Mustangs.
The Mustangs, coming off a 2007-08 season in which they won the Conference USA Tournament championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament, got points from every active player on the roster. After Gilliam's 10 rebounds, the Mustangs were led on the glass by senior forward Elbie Gates (nine points) and Wills, who each had seven rebounds.
The Mustangs open the regular season at 7 p.m. Nov. 14, when they host UT-Arlington at Moody Coliseum. For ticket information and a complete schedule, log on to SMUMustangs.com or call 214-SMU-GAME.
